The 3.2L stainless steel fountain in everyday use.
We sell cat water fountains, so this is uncomfortable to publish. Three controlled trials measured whether fountains raise water intake. The plain still bowl came out marginally ahead at 27.48 ml/kg/day, and the difference was not significant: P = 0.942. One cat in five does show a genuine preference, which you can usually spot for free by watching whether your cat already drinks from the tap.
"Feed your cat once a day" came from a single 2020 trial at the University of Guelph. Eight cats, same food, same calories. Cats fed once daily did show higher satiety hormones, and that is the part that travelled. Two findings did not: cats fed four times daily were significantly more physically active, and free feeding, the practice most owners actually compare against, was never tested at all.
